This March, I was on a 6 person jury panel at the SF Arts Commission to fund new media work and 7 of the 35 films were related to how we experience living in cities covering topics of gang violence in the Mission, profiles of Muni riders, public art as activism, and  the redevelopment of Market Street.  The proposals reflected a variety of film making approaches from experimental to multi-media storytelling.  A new genre of urban themed films is definitely emerging and SFUFF will make sure it’s here to stay!
