Welcome to SF Urban Film Festival 2018
The SF Urban Film Fest is a week-long film festival that uses film to spark discussion and civic engagement around urban issues. We believe urban planning decisions impact everyone, from where and whether you have a place to sleep, the air you breathe, to identity creation and civic empowerment. By pairing issue-oriented film programs with panel discussions, we make urban planning entertaining, accessible, and inclusive.
Now entering our 5th year, we’ve had the pleasure of featuring full-length and short narrative and documentary films. We’ve hosted comedy shows, guerrilla film screenings, and special events that combine education, activism and networking. Festival highlights include a viewing and discussion of “Blade Runner Director’s Cut” illumination of present day Los Angeles and hints of its future; a screening of all 6 episodes of HBO’s and David Simon’s “Show Me A Hero”, based on the true story of the young Mayor of Yonkers fight to desegregate housing;and, of course, the always popular spotlight of local filmmakers like Leah Nichols, Sophie Constantinou, Jeff Adachi, and Yvan Iturriaga.
